Manager Support
Partner/Family Relationships
Building and maintaining healthy relationships—at home or at work—takes daily effort. Relationships change over time and often include both challenges and successes. Learning to manage relationships well requires a range of skills that help create strong, supportive, and lasting connections. Common relationship skills include clear communication, respect, support, compromise, and honesty (George Washington University, N.D.).
One way to strengthen a relationship is to set shared goals and create a plan to achieve them together. Your plan should focus on the specific needs of your relationship. Why are goals important? They encourage teamwork, support open communication, and provide a clear path for growth. They can also help you navigate conflict and difficult times more effectively (Calm Blog, February 9, 2026)
You can think of a partner relationship like a patio table with an umbrella. The table legs represent forgiveness, support, trust, and appreciation. The umbrella represents communication, which helps protect and support everything else. This month’s EAP topic focuses on tools and resources to help you build a stronger connection with your partner.
